A Little About Me
My name is Heather Meier and I graduated from Lebanon Valley College in Spring of 2009. I am originally from Harleysville, Pennsylvania, where I graduated from North Penn Highschool in 2005. In high school I was an active member of my local and musical community. These interests have carried over into my college years. I have aquired much experience in multiple classroom settings throughout my college career. I feel at home in the teaching environment; I love sharing knowledge with students. Singing and music are my passions and if I can get students to develop an appreciation for music, I feel my job has been done.
In my spare time you can find me kayaking on a local lake, singing in a local choir, spending time with family and friends, or reading a good book.
My Personal Teaching Philosophy
I strongly believe that through teaching, one has the ability to help shape a person. Teachers have the ability to make a real difference in a student's life in many different ways, even if it is something as simple as treating a student with respect and asking respect in return. By taking the time to address issues a student might be having, a teacher can potentially change that person's outlook on the task at hand. For example, if a student is acting out in class, it could be because they are not understanding the material fully and need one on one help. After receiving that help, the student should be more receptive to learning about music and maintaining attention in class. One of my main goals as a teacher is to try and connect with every student in some way, no matter how small that connection may be. By connecting the student in their own way with the music and material being taught, they are automatically going to come away from my class with something learned, and I hope that is a greater appreciation for music.
