About Me |
|
I grew up in Altoona, Pennsylvania with my parents, brother, and dog. I have a very large and very close-knit family which is very supportive of me and all of my endeavors. I started my education at Fairview United Methodist Preschool, which is also where I have gone to church my whole life; I am a confirmed member and layreader there. From there I attended grades K-3 at Wright Elementary School, grade 4 at Washington-Jefferson Elementary School, and grades 5 and 6 at Juniata Gap Elementary School. I was in the Altoona Area School District’s Gifted Program, which moved from school to school until settling at Juniata Gap Elementary School– so I made my way around the city! In elementary school I got involved in band, musicals, basketball, peer mediation, and cheerleading.
I attended D.S. Keith Junior High School in Altoona, PA for grades 7-9. While at Keith I was involved in many activities and held many leadership positions. To name a few: student council, band, orchestra, jazz band, chorus, chamber choir, intramural floor hockey, National Junior Honor Society, and website design.
From there I went on to Altoona Area High School for grades 10-12 where I participated in a myriad of activities and also had a part-time job during my junior year. A few of these activities included: student council, band, pit orchestra, musicals, jazz band, intramural flag football, yearbook, Youth Educators of America, homecoming committee, REACH and peer mediation, National Honor Society, and National Art Honor Society. While I was in high school I also participated in several honor bands, such as District and Regional bands, IUP Honor Band, and the Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus (SOA).
SOA was probably the most fantastic musical experience of my life. A friend convinced me to audition for this group in 2004 and I was accepted for both the band and chorus, but chose to participate in the band. With the help and support of my family and friends, I fundraised over $5000 to participate in this national group and perform in six European countries. I had the opportunity to perform with these fantastic ensembles in packed concert halls to enthusiastic audiences in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, and Luxembourg. This experience set my interest in music in stone.
After graduating high school I entered Lebanon Valley College as a freshman with a major in elementary education. After observing first grade for a semester in the general classroom, I knew that I needed to put music back into my life. After a whirlwind of auditioning and running around campus securing signatures, I successfully switched my major to music education and later added on a major of music with a concentration of clarinet. The experiences I have had involving music here at the college and in the classroom have been phenomenal. I am excited to continue my journey in education by bringing my passion for music to the classroom!
In my “spare time” (who has that?), I enjoy reading, writing, taking pictures, drawing, and spending time with my friends and family. I also enjoy volunteering in my mother’s fifth grade classroom as well as various music classrooms in my home school district in Altoona. |
