Course Description:

Issue: This team-taught, interdisciplinary course will critically examine how films reflect, construct, and question the dominant image and understanding of the American identity

The general objectives for this course are at least threefold:  1) to introduce students to the basic history of film and film studies; 2) to acquire the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to critically analyze and better understand how films both reflect and construct a sense of the 'American Identity;' and 3) to provide an interdisciplinary educational experience that will model how different disiplinary perspectives and critical lenses of inquiry into a given field of study allow new meanings to emerge.
